Outside of real estate, Derek has long pursued a balanced lifestyle, with a passion for sports, especially fishing and fitness. As a former trainer of competitive bodybuilders, he values the discipline and mental focus the sport requires. Fishing, on the other hand, offers a welcome escape and a chance to enjoy the natural bounty of the sea.

Derek and his wife, Pat, have been deeply involved in the Tauranga Coastguard. Derek served as a rescue crew member, while Pat was a radio operator for over two decades. In recognition of her 22 years of service, Pat was awarded the Queen’s Service Medal in 2019.

For the past twelve years, Derek has also served as a Small Business Advisor with the Tauranga Business Chamber, helping local businesses grow and thrive. Now in his ninth year in real estate, he still gets a buzz from working with clients and building trusted relationships every day.
